New York Attorney General Letitia James, in coordination with the New York State Police and the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, announced the collection of 111 firearms from a gun buyback event in Bohemia.

Officials credited the program with reducing the number of dangerous weapons on the streets.

Ongoing Gun Violence Prevention Efforts

The Bohemia event is part of James' broader gun control initiative that has removed over 8,400 firearms from circulation since 2019.

"Gun buyback events empower local community members to be a part of the solution against gun violence and turn in unwanted firearms with no questions asked," James said in a press release.

She emphasized that "every one of the guns collected today is an effort to keep New Yorkers safe from the scourge of gun violence facing our communities."
