Richmond Police conducted their third gun buyback event on December 14 at New Life Deliverance Tabernacle, offering gift cards in exchange for firearms to participants.

The event was the third in a series of gun buybacks organized by local authorities.

The buyback has been preceded by two others with high attendance in Richmond. The first was on August 2022 and concluded within three hours, distributing over $67,500 in gift cards.

Community Impact and Participation

The exchange was part of the Richmond Police Department's ongoing efforts to lower the number of guns in circulation locally.

Sgt. Tish Cushenberry of the Richmond Police emphasized the department's goal. "It's a win-win. The guns are off the streets," Cushenberry stated. "We don't want any unwanted operable weapons lying around the house for our young folks to get into accidentally." She highlighted the event as a lawful method for disposing of unwanted firearms.
