We created GunBuyback.org to provide Americans everywhere with a fast, simple, and legal way to dispose of unwanted firearms.
For today’s gun owner, disposing of unwanted firearms is fraught with challenges, and traditional options are not very appealing:
Legal Issues: Understanding and navigating federal, state, and local laws when selling or giving away a firearm can be daunting.
Gun Stores: Packing guns in a car and hauling them in and out of gun stores looking for someone willing to pay a fair price for them can be time-consuming, stressful, and intimidating.
Private Sales: Private-party sales are prohibited in many jurisdictions. Where they are legal, meeting a stranger in a parking lot to exchange money for a gun involves risk and legal liability. Additionally, many gun owners disagree with undocumented private gun sales that bypass federal background checks and state waiting periods.
Local gun buyback programs were created as a solution for those wanting to dispose of firearms quickly and easily, without the stresses and risks associated with other options. While gun buyback programs are occasionally administered by local law enforcement agencies, their geographic reach is limited, and they tend to be infrequent and of limited duration.
